Welcome to 31 Days of Kindness
If you're having difficulty following the theme click here and all will be revealed
(The Link also gives the Rules on What Qualifies as a Kind Act)
Remember to let me know you're own little Acts of Kindness in the Comments
Kind Act Count to Date: 14
Day 3 I am impressed - comments with messages of Kind Acts are flooding in. 14 already! Thanks to Vicky a new Aloe Vera plant sits proudly in a new neighbours' kitchen, Jackie has made contact with old friends, and Umman helped a turtle.
I have decided to refine the rules on what qualifies for a Kind Act. As we are trying to increase the sum total of human happiness through our efforts, a Kind Act (for the purposes of the experiment) is a nice thing you wouldn't normally have done. That is not to decry the kind acts everyone does anyway, but the purpose of the Kind Act Experiment is to expand on the usual kindnesses, do our bit for humanity, and determine if doing extra Kind Acts improves our own happiness along the way.
I was getting worried that my two Kind Acts so far have both involved spending money, so I felt I'd try something that involved some time. There was some self-interest here. My Significant Other reads this, and if she sees too much money going out on stupid experiments, there is a fair chance that I will come under pressure to buy new flooring for the hall.
So, this morning I was on my own with the kids (I usually am on a Saturday, as my Significant Other selfishly chooses to work so that she can bring in income to contribute to my foolish experiments). Usually I spend my time with the children wisely, by sitting around in my pants watching Soccer AM, but today I phoned an old family friend. She stays on her own, as her husband died about five years ago. And I know she gets a bit lonely from time to time, and I asked if it'd be OK to bring the kids round so she could meet the new baby.
And so, this morning, you would have found me drinking tea out a china cup, watching one child nestled in a very happy old lady's lap, whilst the other child destroyed several important looking documents.
I'm not saying I'll never watch Soccer AM again, but it was a very pleasant morning.
