Entry for May 29, 2007

We had a rehearsal in the new primary school at Tannochside last night. It's one of the brand new schools that seem to be springing up everywhere in Scotland just now. The facilities are very impressive.
However, I do sometimes question whether all the money that's spent on primary schools is entirely justified. The hall we rehearsed in had a proper lighting rig and no less than six radio mikes all patched into a state of the art sound system. I have to wonder whether all this is entirely necessary. What is going on during Show and Tell these days? Are the children's tales of "What I Did On My Summer Holidays" being accompanied by a Pink Floydesque laser show?
I imagine that when Mr Dimsdale the headteacher takes assembly, there is a swirl of dry ice as the hall doors swing slowly open. Then, back lit, he appears, jogging from foot to foot in a silky robe. I see him accompanied by three gorgeous teachers from the Lower School clad in figure hugging lycra. One of them holds his Lanarkshire Head Teachers Association Title Belt for aloft as Mrs Minto the deputy head growls into the mike - "Here he is. Dimsdale the Destroyer. Let's Get Ready To Rumuuuuuuuuuumble...."
