I was thinking about the Tooth Fairy today. You know the score - when you lose a tooth, you put it under your pillow, and then during the night the fairy comes along, gazes for a few minutes at your semi-naked body spreadeagled on the mattress and then leaves a few coins under your pillow. The fairy then steals away to fairyland taking your tooth. Presumably the fairy has some rather scary basement somewhere, where there is a huge white shrine built out of teeth. The whole thing strikes me as very silence of the lanbs.
Anyway, I was thinking, is it just the tooth that has it' own fairy? I mean we sometimes lose other bodily items. For example, is there a Toenail Fairy? I just don't know. I have left teeth under my bed, and this provides empirical data that there is a tooth fairy. However I have never placed toenails beneath the pillow. I will try it tonight.
What would the Toenail Fairy leave in exchange for the nails? I mean it might not be money. Perhaps it would be a nice cardigan, or a packet of jaffa cakes. What is the currency in the weird bureau de change of the Body Part Fairies.
It might not stop there. Does the Dermitits Fairy leave something in return for your flaky skin? And what of the Allupicia Fairy?
Does the Amputation Fairy have to leave a bar of gold bullion?
