About once every couple of weeks I get the chance to work from home for an afternoon. And today was that day.
Now, people will tell you that the joy of working from home is that it frees you from the narrow strictures of the office, and loosens up your creative spirit. Once the distraction of the telephone is gone, your productivity will sky-rocket.
These people are wrong. The major advantage of working from home is that there are more distractions not less! You can while away quarter of an hour watching the neighbours unloading their shopping. You can open your mail, and wonder at the tosh you have bought on your credit card. You can plant some onions. You can even start to cook the dinner.
Better than all of that, if you do feel like doing some actual work, you can do it within easy reach of the biscuit tin and the kettle. So, by 3 o'clock this afternoon, you would have found me knee deep in Breakaway wrappers, humming along to Killers as Classic Rock blared from the stereo.
If you plan your home working just right, you may not get any work done at all.
