How odd - the Labour Party failed to win the most seats in the Scottish Parliament. I bet they wouldn't have been so keen on devolution if they's seen that coming.
I do like elections. I suspect it's in the genes - Grandpa B was a Councillor back in the 60s, so for me there's something comforting about standing in an old gym hall, clutching your pencil and standing in one of those rickety wooden booths that look as if they've been knocked together by members of the home guard. At any moment you expect Captain Manwering and Pike to burst through the swing doors, shouting "Don't vote for Mr Hitler's Nazi Party".
It might seem a bit out of fashion to say it, but I think it's something to be proud of. The government is made by us - by our little marks on the ballot paper. We can send them packing if enough of us get up tight enough about what they've been doing. Say what you like about Jack McConnell and Alex Salmond, but they're preferable to Otto Von Bismarck or Idi Amin.
Just.
