Entry for March 11, 2007

It was the opening night of the Comedy Festival tonight. As always there were one or two opening night panics, the most significant one relating to box office arrangements, and I use arrangements here in a very loose term. Perhaps the term "complete lack of any arrangements whatsoever" would be more accurate.
About two hours before the show, Ipopped down to see the venue manager to find out where they would be keeping tickets to be collected on the door. I was met with a stare that the word vacant only begins to describe; a stare as featureless as the Gobi dessert; a stare that said "Ask me not about ticket deks, for those are words without meaning to me; time may pass, continents may drift and collide, and still ticket desks will be unimportant and unworthy of my consideration."
Apparently, it was my job to get a ticket report, organise a desk, obtain something called a "Callover Sheet", label tickets for collection, man the desk, sell tickets on the door, and deal with showing people to their seat. This all came to light as I was finishing a technical rehearsal.
In fairness to the lovely people at the venue, they were just doing exactly what they always do, and it wasn't their fault, but it did cause a bit of a panicy couple of hours. I'll know better next time.
