Entry for June 25, 2007

I have spent the whole weekend writing. I had to give up at about 9pm tonight because I was actually seeing little sections of the Family Law (Scotland) Act peeling away from the laptop screen, jumping onto the desk and then performing little dances. Section 9(1)(b) did a particularly good version of the Mashed Potato.
I am pleased to report that I have now submitted 90,000 words to the publishers. With a bit of luck, they may not look at word 40,000 through to word 80,500 which (if they examine it closely) is a repeat of the sentence "I'm never going to finish this."
However, with a bit of luck the submission of this much material will buy me a little bit of time so that I can die before I actually have to submit the final draft. That way, it will be like Mozart's Requiem or Beethoven's Unfinished Symphony: an incomplete work of genius, that scholars will pore over in centuries to come.
Except that obviously my book is very boring. And is not a work of genius. And is unlikely ever to get an airing on Classic FM.
