Glasgow is a hard city right? I know that, in recent years, the City Council have tried to gloss over the hard and violent past, with declarations that we are the European city of Culture, The City of Design, and that we are of course Miles Better.
But beneath all the splendid clothes they dressed the city up in, we always knew that a blacker heart was beating; beating to an old pulse and ready - with just one flick of a cutthroat razor - to spatter real blood across the terazzo floors of the Designer shopping malls.
We knew this but we were wrong. The old Glasgow is gone, as surely as the Shipyards will never launch anything other than a pinstripe suit's career in property development. And how do I know? Becuase today I was at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery cafe. And there on the menu, on the back page, in the drinks section, was the following -
Babycinno (£0.95)
Frothed milk in an espresso cup, so the kids can enjoy a "grown up coffee".
