It is very good to laugh until you are sore. I am not so sure that it is good to laugh so much that one of your testicles begins to ache in a pulsing message that says "Beware! You have laughed so much that now, in the Yin Yang way of the universe, you will be punished by a pain in the place that you cherish."
That is how much I laughed tonight during rehearsals. My pal Ali B was giving a particularly rambling and off-script rendition of "Della - The Meanest Woman in Scotland" and by the end of it, all six of us in the room were helpless with laughter. Brilliant, brilliant, cathartic laughter, on a night when we all needed to laugh because a dear friend - who had been with us in many shows died tonight.
So, we will all miss you Cath in different ways. I remember her raising the hairs on the back of my arms in Perfect Days, when she glided onto the stage - Annie Lennox soaring over the PA - and Cath a grey smiling ghost holding us all breathless and sad and uplifted for one of the rare magical moments you only really ever find in theatres or with people you love.
