Entry for July 21, 2007

Day 1 of The YES Experiment
In the pub this evening I said YES to the Salvation Army, who were selling copies of their newspaper The War Cry. On the great scale of war cries throughout the centuries, the Salvation Army's paper cannot rate very highly. Lets face it, it is not up there with William "Mel" Wallace's cry of "Freedom!!!". I doubt if King Edward would have been shaking in his chain mail if he had been confronted by two elderly gentlemen in funny hats saying "Do you want to buy my paper?"
At any event, I was pleased to have said "Yes" to the Salvation Army, because it reminded me of my papa, who was a champion euphonium player with the Army, and I felt kind of pleased that my pound will be going towards some euphonium polish for a young soldier down on his luck.
Today's YES has left me with a small but tangible feeling of doing some good.
