I finished a quick rewrite of scene 1 of Match Play last night and felt better for it as it whirred out the printer. (And, as usual, less good about it when I re-read it later).
There’s a fair way to go to get it up to scratch, but as rehearsals are starting soon, I shall have to get on to it. The thought of actors beating to me to death with rolled up copies of the script is a strong incentive. I can hear them now in their whiny actorish voices yelling at me: “You made me look a fool sir. A fool do you hear? I shall stab you death with the barbed wit of my tongue”.
Actually, now that I think of it, the thought of ridicule is really about the strongest motivating factor for me. That and the thought of an unfavourable comparison with Canon and Ball.
