I went to see Kate Rusby at the Glasgow Concert Hall last night. If you haven't checked her out, then you should. She has a voice that has a certain melancholy quallity that is rare and beautiful. She also had brought along a brass quartet for a few of the numbers, which was great.
I have a soft spot for brass band music because my papa (dad's dad) was a euphonium player for the Salvation Army. I do sometimes wonder what use Jesus would have in the Final Conflict for people playing the cornet and tuba. When Satan and his fiery hoards come to claim their earthly dominion, I can't imagine that the Lord of Darkness, is going to be put off by a stirring rendition of "I Wish it Could Be Christmas Every Day", cunningly arranged for the baritone horn.
On the other hand, if they rattle a collecting can at Beelzebub and offer him a copy of the War Cry they might just stand a chance of scaring him back to Hades.
