Entry for January 2, 2007

All systems go for Match Play now. I'm pleased to say that an old friend (of mine and Practical Magic's) - Ross Glover - is going to play the part of Stevie, which gives us a full compliment of a cast - always a useful feature in a play I believe. Rehearsals should start in mid-January, and I'd better get cracking on a wee edit to the script. Life is never dull!
Whatever re-write I have to do for this production, it will not be as bad as when we did Match Play at the Fringe. I discovered with about two days to go that the play was running about half an hour longer than the slot ascribed to us in the programme, and gave the cast a revised script to learn at practically no notice. You can imagine how pleased the actors were with me. I was the toast of the dressing room for months afterwards.
I have to say that the quality of my writing was such that the play did not seem to lose anything by removing half an hour of dialogue. I'll see if I can improve it again this time by chopping half of the script.
It will at least mean that we get to the pub a bit quicker.
