Entry for January 17, 2007
Ah - what a relief. I have got the PC working again. It has only taken me three hours, and even now, I am failrly sure there is something nasty going on with the keyboard driver.
I have made a mistake. The mistake is this: I have 2 PCs - the idea being, one for the internet, and one to be kept virus free for family photos etc. In order to move seamlessly between the two using but a single monitor I bought something called a "Switch Box". It sounds lovely doesn't it? Simple; elegant; a bespoke solution to what seems to me to be a tiny problem. This is what it said on the box -
"Two PCs; One Monitor; No problem."
I don't think so matey. What it should have said is this -
"Two PCs? One monitor? Busy doing your tax return, writing a script and writing a book simultaneously? Need some more stress? Sure you do!!! Give us forty quid and spend two whole days fannying about fruitlessly moving cables from one USB port to the other in a vain attempt to get things working, whilst all the while feeling your temples pound as the frustration gradually builds until you are in a murderous rage."
