I was in the queue at Crieff Hydro this morning checking out. As is the way at the Hydro there was a small grey-haired lady in front of me in the queue checking in. She was asking about entertainment and so on, and the girl behind the desk mentioned that she could get films in her room if she ordered them.
The old lady perked up. "Oh. That might be nice dear. I'd quite like a nice film tonight."
"All you have to do is call reception."
"That's nice."
"Shall I check what's on?" asked the assistant helpfully.
"Yes, that would be lovely."
"Let's see," said the assistant, thumbing through her film brochure. Then she paused. "Oh right."
"What is it?"
"Well, tonight it's a film called 'Brokeback Mountain'."
"Oh. What's that about?" asked the old lady, clearly planning her evening. She looked expectantly at the girl.
There was a pause and then the receptionist said hesitantly, "Well, I haven't actually seen it myself. It's a cowboy film I think."
"Oh good. I like cowboys. Lots of adventures."
"Yes."
"Can I have that then?"
A longer pause, then with the efficient tone of one who know the customer is always right, the girl replied, "I'll just order it for you."
