Entry for February 17, 2007

I was at the BBC meeting today. As best I can see it there's a new radio show being broadcast later this year, and they're inviting about 200 aspiring writers to submit material. I can totally understand it from their perspective - they want to bring on new writers, and this is a great way of doing it, but I don't think the odds are very much in one's favour!
However, nothing ventured and all that. I'll submit a couple of sketches and see what happens. If nothing else the blog is quite good at generating an idea or two.
What was interesting at the meeting was the audience of writers. As best I can see, to be a writer you need to wear jeans with a suit jacket and preferably a shirt. It also appears to help if you need a good haircut and if you look as if you could do with a good wash. Also, if you are above the age of about 35, it seems that you should wear convex trainers without any apparent trace of irony.
I, of course, did not fall into these categories, having my own innate sense of style. I am an individual and do not dress like a wannabe weekend artist.
I did like the look of those trainers though. I'm sure I could get away with them.
