Entry for February 10, 2007

It's my pal Allan's 40th tomorrow; the start of a year of 40th birthday celebrations for me and my closest friends, and it's got me thinking about how I'll celebrate my own milestone.
There was a thing on radio 4 the other morning about the phenomonon of party bags at children's parties. It seems that parents are now compelled to give children who come to parties a bag of treats. The whole thing is apparently a bit of a stressful and competitive business, with toddlers examining the contents of their bag and comparing the relative largesse of the parents.
It's got me thinking that, for my fortieth party, I might give out goody bag to the adults who come along. Why should the children have all the fun? What treats though would I give to my nearest and dearest as we enter into middle age? Here are my ideas for the contents of an adult party bag. I will refine this as July approaches -
10 Benson and Hedges (for when a cheeky fag is the only thing that will do).
A packet of three (assorted).
A £1 stake for a William Hill bet.
Packet of Resolve.
Can of Pimms/Gordons.
Phone number for "Spankline".
A nice bit of cheese.
