I wass watching a programme about Windows Vista earlier, and the big advertising campaign they used to launch it. The theme of the campaign is the "Wow" factor it can give your life.
Hmmm.
Maybe it's just me, but I have difficulty getting worked up about 60 million lines of computer code. It is an operating system for a PC. It does not give us the Wow that comes when we gaze out over the beautiful Cairnorms. It does not give us that flutter we feel when the horse we've bet our shirt on thunders across the winning line. It doesn't come close to the look in your lover's eye first thing in the morning.
I can't imagine Isambard Kingdom Brunel rushing off to the Hilton for the launch of the new Spanner 2.0 from Ostlethwaites bolt works.
