Exciting news today. I got an email inviting me to a comedy writing workshop at BBC Scotland. I don't really know what to make of it.
I fired off some sketches to them a few months ago in response to a general request for material, and they said they'd give feedback to anyone who made a submission. To be honest I hadn't given it much thought since I sent the stuff off. My experience with these things is that the scripts seem to get lost in some Artsworld Black Hole and you never hear anything again.
I suspect that the workshop may be a method of giving feedback to anyone who put in a submission, so the news may be rather less intriguing than it appears. It is quite possible that I'm being invited so that they can tick some check boxes on some Scottish Executive form. It is quite possible that I am their quota of nearly 40 white males with no sense of humour.
However, nothing ventured. If nothing else, it will give me the chance to swan around Queen Margaret Drive for an afternoon. I shall wear black, and take up smoking specially for the occasion. When I get back I may not talk to any of my old friends, as I will have new meedya contacts whom I shall have to cultivate carefully.
I am off to plan some dinner parties.
