It's been a really pleasant day of show stuff. I finished re-writing a couple of the more tricky scenes in Match Play and they seemed to work pretty well at this afternoon's rehearsal. It's a bit difficult trying to split the roles of writing and directing. I think that whenever I direct my own stuff, there's a temptation to spend too long trying to see whether the writing is any good.
If you're directing other folk's plays it's easier because you have to work with what's there on the page and there's no temptation to monkey about with the word. If there's a problem you direct your way round it rather than re-write things. Obviously the other big advantage with other people's writing is that it's a lot better than mine.
I'm expecting a busy week at the office so I've nipped in for a couple of hours to try to get the decks cleared for the days ahead. I quite like the office on a Sunday - no ringing phones and no-one around. So, I'd best crack on.
