I am feeling like an International Business Traveller today, as I am staying in the Premier Travel Inn in Edinburgh. I have a 2 day course on mediation and the thought of the 6.30am train from Uddingston does not appeal.
The hotel bar appears to be full of other people at conferences of one sort of another, largely sitting at tables for one busily texting or phoning their loved ones. It is rather dreary.
To add to my feelings of loneliness they have put me in a family room. At least I hope that's what's happened. Maybe this is the wrong room, and later when I am sitting in my sleep attire watching Ferris Bueller's Day Off (Channel 5 - 9pm - we International Business Travellers plan our itineries carefully) Gordon, Irene and little Tommy will arrive with their cases, and I will discover I should be in the East Wing.
"Who are you?"
"I'm Alan Bayley, Ineternational Business Traveller. Who are you?"
"Eh. I'm Gordon and this is our room."
"*^%$ off Gordon. I'm watching Ferris Bueller in my nightwear; I'm a partially-trained mediator and I'm not afraid to Reframe, Summarise and ultimately Normalise you and your whole family."
"Ah sorry. Must be my mistake."
