I went to the Snow Patrol gig last night at the SECC. It was just one of those really perfect concerts. I love the band anyway, so that's a good start, and it was one of those nights where there was just something good going on.
I'd got a lift in so I'd had a couple of beers, and the band seemed genuinely enthused to be playing the SECC (I hadn't realised they lived in Scotland). The great thing about Gary Lightbody as a front man is that he seems to really feel the music. I love that. Someone that cares about the little moments they're trying to create.
It seems to me that one of the good things that art can do - whether it's music or painting or theatre - is to make you feel connected with other people. That's what it's like to be in love or That's what it's like to be dumped.
In the middle of the gig they played that brilliant number "Chasing Cars" - the one that has that bit in it that goes - "If I lay here - If I just lay here - would you lie with me and just forget the world." Which is good in itself anyway, but I turned round and looked at the audience all singing along and there was this girl on her mobile phone, all tangled sweaty blonde hair, and looking so happy. She was singing for all she was worth to someone she loved at the other end of the line.
Those three words Are said too much They're not enough
That was the best bit of the gig for me.
