Entry for December 13, 2006

As I bought my lunch today, the man from the Spar gleefully informed me that it has rained every day for the past 26 days. He appeared to be rather too pleased about this. Either he has an unusual liking for romantic walks in the rain, or he is a man who has a devotion to metearological statistics which goes beyond what is entirely healthy.
"Twenty six days consecutive rain," he said to me. with a rather manic glint in his eye.
I clutched my corn beef roll a little more tightly to my chest. His uncomfortably direct stare seemed to demand an answer. "Oh. Really?" I replied.
"Yes!" he said enthusiastically. Then he paused, leaned a little closer and repeated, "Twenty six days!".
"That's a lot of rain," I said rather hopelessly. I realised as the words came out my mouth that he knew this already. My contribution was clearly redundant. He already knew more about the rainfall levels than I ever would. I felt like a Standard Grade Science student talking to Einstein and saying something like "Oh yeah. The Speed of Light - that's quite fast isn't it?"
Anyway the man from the Spar humoured me. "Yes!" he said, nodding vigorously. He seemed pleased to have found someone with whom to share his knowledge. "A lot of rain!!!"
If it rains tomorrow, I shall go to Aulds for lunch.
