Entry for August 06, 2007

Day 17 of The YES Experiment
If anyone's having difficulty following the theme of these blog entries, click on the link above and all will be explained.
Our Edinburgh Fringe venue the Smirnoff Underbelly contacted us today to advise that a polish theatre producer is coming to see Sketchy! at the Fringe. Apparently, he is putting together a festival of children's theatre in Warsaw, and wants to see if the show is suitable.
A more suspicious person than me might suspect that Mr Polish Theatreperson, is in fact someone from Leith on the scrounge for free tickets. I am going to test him though, in the manner of German Officers in the Great Escape. I am going to engage him in fluent Polish shortly before the show, but then cunningly, I am going to offer him a bag of chips. If he is from Edinburgh he will be unable to resist asking me for "salt and sauce", and at that point I will be entitled to perform a citizen's arrest.
On the other hand, if he actually is Polish, I fear that he is going to be very confused by Sketchy!. My first language is English and I directed the show, and I still don't understand most of the jokes. Do you think it is possible that a script might actually gain something in translation? If so, I might be off to Warsaw in the autumn.
Anyway, today's Yes! was a late night cup of tea with the in-laws. I was collecting a final script from my sister-in-law (yes, yes, I know - a final version of the script 8 days before the show goes on - we are nothing if not well-organised at Practical Magic). To be honest I was ready to go home and collapse, but any invitation cannot be resisted this month.
Anyway I'm glad I stayed. I got a pancake and had a nice wee chat. If that isn't a result, I don''t know what is.
