It's the Small Bald Person's first birthday on Tuesday, and we've had a lovely Sunday with family and friends to celebrate. There is something hugely comforting about cheese sandwiches made from white bread; blowing out a single birthday candle; and small wobbly children stumbling about on the lawn.
My favourite bit of the day was when my dad was playing with my nephew, The Blue Eyed Boy. The two of them were running about on the lawn, The Blue Eyed Boy giggling happily as papa chased him around the grass. My dad was not just so happy when I suggested that the whole thing was like the closing scenes of The Godfather. I even offered to get him a couple of oranges. He started chasing me at that point. And that is dangerous. I have a heart murmur.
So you find me content this evening, having felt the sun on my back for the first time of the year. My daughter is asleep, the kitchen is tiday again, and I am full of party food (with the promise of more to come shortly).
That was a good day.
