I have been maintaining for some time that there is a gap in the market in the door-to-door food delivery market. At the moment, your home delivery options are basically limited to the delivery of milk and ice cream. If you live in certain areas with aspirations above their stations, you might even have a fish van (just in case you fancy buying a nice piece of hake on impulse – there’s nothing worse than settling down to watch The Bill of an evening and discovering there’s no langoustines to snack on).
However, no-one has spotted the very clear need for deliveries of bacon rolls direct to your door on a Sunday morning. Can you imagine anything more tempting on a Sunday morning, than the sight of Bob the Bacon Roll Boy, in his bright blue uniform and red cap, standing on your doorstep. Can you see him? His impish grin? The freckles? Clutching his little basket, piled high with baps bursting with warm rashers of Danish? I bet you can even envisage the special painted sauce dispenser, with the red and brown options.
Tell me honestly now – if Bob the Bacon Roll Boy were to appear on your doorstep this Sunday, wouldn’t you be rummaging under the sofa cushions to come up with enough money to avail yourselves of his purvey?
