Entry for 7th November, 2008 - I Miss Top of the Pops

Oh God - I miss Top of the Pops!!!!
I do. I miss it. I miss the starbust filter on the cameras as the guitarist looks into the lens and grins a manic grin. I miss the countdown to number one. I miss the the girls in the audience - the girls next door who can't really dance - swaying to the the sounds og synthesisers.
I miss it! I miss it! I miss it!
The world has become too complex. They are playing music I like on Radio 2. Radio 1 has a "Wonder years" slot that is playing oldies from the late 90s. There are digital radio stations that sound like the Park Lane Heavy Metal Disco on a Thursday night two decades ago.
Where has the simple pleasure of Top of the Pops gone? The simplicity of One Chart.
One Chart Indivisible.
One Chart Omnipotent.
One Chart to rule them all and in teh darkness bind them?
The world is too compertmentalised. I want to go into school tomorrow and find the EVERYONE knows that Morrissey was swinging a gladiola on prime TV and EVERYONE is talking about it and EVERYONE has an opinion on it. I don't care what your opinion is. I just want us to be talking about the same thing. I can't cope with all the little windows everywhere into all the different worlds that I no longer understand.
I want Morecomb and Wise and Tiswas and Cheese and Onion in Green Bags and TopoftheBloodyPops.
