Entry for 4th September, 2008

As a result of the Sportsman's Dinner I mentioned in my last post, I spent most of Saturday in my pants watching episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation, whilst the children ran around the house in a way which, if observed by William Goulding, would have resulted in a less optimistic ending to "Lord of the Flies". (At one point I am fairly sure I saw a pig being roasted in the utility room).
I wouldn't say it was a wasted day though. Captain Picard seems to have regenerated my batteries. Star Trek is essentially an optimistic series. The endings are always happy; and the Starship Enterprise seems like a nice place to work. Hot meals are provided. The management appear to have a good relationship with the staff, and the place generally seems to be free from industrial strife. I cannot recall any episodes where the Enterprise had to stay in the Starport because of the unreasonable wage demands from the Dilithium Crystal Chemical Engineering Union.
My faith in the future of humanity is restored.
