Elderly barrow boy Sir Alan Sugar has failed to notice my talents again this year on The Apprentice. Just because I am not actually on the programme does not mean that I should have been overlooked. Having said that, I am not sure that I would have accepted his SIX FIGURE SALARY since I am already receiving a salary of that nature (OK OK - in my case two of the figures come just after the decimal point).
I do love The Apprentice. It gives the lie to New Labour. Maybe on the surface we are smiling social democrats, but scratch us and our blood is blue. As the credits of The Apprentice roll across the shining aluminium and glass of the City of London, you cannot help but feel a strange Thatcherite stirring; a certain sense of pride in our grasping, opportunist culture.
The Apprentice brings out all that is best and worst about the British. We are conniving, ambitious, greedy and bellicose for sure. But also - hard-working, dogged and bloody hard to beat in a fight.
Come on Sir Alan - you can have me if you want me.
