I've done it.
I've created a 50,000 word novel in 28 days. I am a novelist. Admittedly, it is not a novel that will ever be read, let alone published, but nevertheless I did it. It is sitting there on my hard drive, and I will soon print out all 217 pages of it. I may spread it out on the floor and roll around on it for a bit. Then I might have a little bit of a sleep.
I am now going to buy a floppy hat, and sit in shabby cafes in Paris' left bank drinking dangerous amounts of Absynthe. People will pass by the cafe and see me sitting in the window, puffing on the stub of a filterless cigarette. "There he is," they will say. "There is Alan B."
"Who?"
"Alan B. The novelist."
Then they will walk off into the night, and I will stare a little sadly out into the street, smoke spiraling from my cigarette.
