Oh dear.
O dearodearodearodear.
An idea is taking form in my head, and it is becoming irresistible. It is a project. Or as my Significant Other describes it, "another one of your stupid ideas". I'm not sure if I should tell you what it is yet, because I'm still not sure if I'm going to take it on. But put it this way, it will make 31 Days of Yes and 40 Cups Tea With 40 Friends, look like trifling bagatelles. It might also make the month of March very busy indeed.
I often get these ideas, and they come and go, like butterflies landing on the beautiful yellow daisy that is my creative subconscious. They are gone as quickly as they arrive. But sometimes the ideas are not like butterflies. Sometimes they are more like a large and unwelcome hippopotamus sitting on your front lawn.
The hippopotamus sometimes smiles and says "Can I come in and stampede through your otherwise perfect life, causing chaos?"
"Why would you want to do that?" I reply. (Internally, for I know that it is a hippopotamus of the imagination.)
"For I am the Ideas Hippopotamus, and it is my function to act as a metaphor, for the untold disorder that this project will cause."
"Project. I didn't say I was taking on any project."
"But I am the Ideas Hippopotamus, and you know that when I arrive I bring my little briefcase."
"What little briefcase?"
"This one. The one with your project in it."
"Oh yes. I see it now."
"I'm pleased that you do Alan."
"Why do you suddenly sound like Hal the Computer off of 2001 A Space Odyssey?"
"I don't know Alan. But perhaps you'd like to open the briefcase now. Go on. You know the combination..."
