I may have mentioned to you before that I used to play the role playing game (RPG) Dungeons and Dragons as a nerdy teenager. When I reached nerdy adulthood, I cast the hobby aside, as it was clearly inconsistent with any possibility of copping off with anyone of the opposite sex (or indeed anyone of the same sex and most members of the animal kingdom).
However, my friend Laughing Boy planted the insidious suggestion that a few of the old D&D crowd should get together for one last trip down the dungeons. And I am pleased to say that we have now gathered together a big enough group of like-minded saddos to make it all worthwhile! I think so far we have gathered 2 solicitors, 1 industrial chemist, a financial adviser and a senior IT manager from the local authority. Perhaps we should really all be meeting over Pimms at the local golf club, rather than rolling oddly shaped dice in an attempt to slay G’aark the three-legged Goblin from the Mournlands of Blorg.
I suppose it is all rather embarrassing. I certainly shall not be speaking of my trips down dungeons of the imagination to my high-powered colleagues and clients. I shall keep it my little secret, and shall only publicise it here on the World Wide Web. That way I am safe, and shall not be laughed at formal dinners.
