Entry for 25th May, 2008

Well, we had our first rehearsal for One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest this evening, and I loved it.
It is a year and a half since I directed a proper bit of adult theatre and I have really missed it. The cast is excellent, and there was a real sense of fun about the evening. It feels good, after a day at work worrying about people's lives and problems and staff and all the big stuff, to spend a couple of hours totally immersed in trying to bring a few pages of script to life. It is absorbing. I find that time just disappears when I'm rehearsing. It feels like I am working in a different universe where the minutes flow differently.
Most importantly, it was fun. I haven't laughed quite as much for ages (at least with adults, but then laughing with kids doesn't count: it is clearly what kids are for).
