After our jam on Saturday, The Advisor and I went for a few drinks in our home town. It was odd and slightly comforting to be out and about in the pubs on a Saturday night. The streets at night look familiar through the fug of a few pints. It is like a parallel town existing alongside the daytime one. If Stephen Hawking visited, I'm sure that he'd find a gateway from one world to the next (at around 8pm in a pub, just at the point that they dim the lights).
I ran into a crowd of folk that I know from various drama clubs which was a laugh. That's one of the things I miss about not staying in my home town - running into old friends in old haunts. It's good to meet people who know who you are. There's no need to do that verbal fencing thing that you have to do when you meet adults for the first time:
"Nice to meet you."
"You too."
"It's a nice place this eh?"
"Yes. Yes it is."
"What is it you do?"
"I'm in charge of a fish gutting factory."
"Wow. That must be interesting."
"Well. It pays the mortgage!"
"Yes! Well - we all have to do that. Ah ha ha ha."
"Ah ha ha. Yes. We do - don't we. Ah ha ha ha."
"We cetainly do. Ha ha ha."
"Ha. Oh. Is that the time? I must be going."
