Entry for 22nd November, 2008 - A Horror Story!

I mentioned yesterday that I am having trouble finding time to read these days, because the Roundfaced People have a tendency to invade my every waking moment with their incessant demands on my time. When I do get a chance to read just now I’m afraid it tends to be law books that I am reading on account of the fact that they are easy to pick up and read a few paragraphs. There is not much of a plot in a law book, so it is difficult to lose the thread.
I currently ploughing my way through “Drafting Wills in Scotland”. It is a worrying book. The worrying thing is that I have been drafting Wills in Scotland for the best part of 20 years now, and apparently there are quite a lot of things about it that I don’t know much about. Today I have learned that there is something called the condition si testator sine liberis decesserit. The authors describe this thing as “important”. Until now, I would have guessed that it was some kind of starter served in restaurants in Milan.
It is not though. It is the sort of thing to give a lawyer a sleepless night. While the rest of you have nightmares about monsters under the bed, we dream darkly about Latin maxims that we don’t recognise.
