I have a doppelganger.
My doppelganger is annoying because he is not some romantic figure who only crosses my path once in a lifetime, perhaps as part of some romantic plot in a black and white film. No. My doppelganger is much more prosaic, and was brought up near to me. I am frequently mistaken for him. Instead of this happening in airport lounges in Marakesh, it happens for me in Greggs the Bakers in Wishaw.
We are not related. At least not on paper. But I like to think that we share a common ancestor. Perhaps his great great grandfather cast his wild oats in the direction of my great great grandmother's fallow field. And now - just a few generations later - his strong handsome jawline and her irresistable magical blue eyes have come together twice in a harmonious and unstoppable synergy.
