Real coffee! How I love real coffee in the morning. I think that I can handle just about anything when I have a sensuous dark Colombian first thing in the morning. And if I can have a cup of coffee afterwards that’s a nice bonus too. (Source – “The Bob Monkhouse Jokebook – 1975”)
I do like it though. It makes me feel that, instead of living in an estate on the fringes of Glasgow, I am actually taking breakfast in a French farmhouse before retiring to an attic room to write the great European novel. It is an idle fantasy, but a harmless one to muse on before guiltily burning some carbon on the morning commute.
Breakfast in a French farmhouse! Has anyone else noticed how their fantasies in middle-age are far more bourgeois and less erotic than those of adolescence. In younger days, most of my fantasies involved Claire C who sat in front of me in physics in a pleasingly tight pencil skirt. Nowadays, my idle reverie is much more likely to involve my endowment policies maturing and a little cottage in rural Bulgaria.
Although Claire, if you are reading this, you are welcome to slip into your pencil skirt and join me on the flight to Sofia.
