Entry for 20th September, 2008 - Religion

I don't know if you read about the big furore recently about the Humanist Society putting signs up on the London buses saying "There's probably no God, so stop worrying and enjoy your life"? Overall, I found it fairly amusing, although I have to say that I'm not totally convinced that one liners on the side of buses do much to further love, peace and understanding (no matter what the philosophical or religous view which is being advanced).
Personally, I seem to have lost the ability to get too worked up about my views on religion. I have fairly firm views on the subject, and I guess they are quite a big part of what makes me - well - me. But as I get on a bit in years, those views seem rather irrelevant to the way I relate to other people. I have friends with a wide variety of views, and we all seem to like 1980s rock music, Guitar Hero and curry. As far as I can see we all seem to be Jock Tamson's Bairns.
Or at least if we are not Jock Tamson's bairns then we are all connected with one another and Jock Tamson via a common ancestor and the mysterious journey of DNA down the millennia.
Either way, I can't seem to get as annoyed about our differences on the matter as I used to. I have stopped worrying and am getting on with my life. And I didn't even need a message on the side of a bus to reach that conclusion.
