Entry for 20th October, 2008 - Staggered staggering

I mentioned in my last post that my spouse had a bit of a hangover at the weekend. I didn’t really grudge this, since I have had more than my fair share of long lies since the kids were born whilst she’s fed and entertained the Small Round Faced People. However, one thing that we have learned since the kids arrived is that we can no longer have simultaneous hangovers. Gone are the halcyon days when we could lie in bed until noon allowing the fug of the booze to dissipate as we sipped coffee and read the Sunday papers.
Now, we realise that one of us must be hangover free every morning to face the assault of the little people. So, we stagger our nights out – one of us remaining teetotal when the other has a night on the tiles. I actually quite enjoy my alcohol free nights now. I rather like adopting a self-righteous tone. Sometimes I even hear myself audibly “tutting” at the state my spouse has allowed herself to get into.
