Entry for 20th November, 2008 - I am a meatball eater

One of the problems with our annual Eurovision Party is that all the guests have to bring a national dish, so there is an absolute mountain of brilliant food every year. The highlights this year included Icelandic lamb soup, Norwegian apple cake and Turkish meatballs. The reason that this is a problem is that I am one of these people that is missing the gene that tells you to stop eating when you are full. In fact, I am fairly sure that I have a fairly rare gene that means that I cannot sleep while there is any lovely food in the house.
This year I managed to eat my own body weight in food. By the end of the night the national dishes of Europe had united in my gut. In many ways my small intestine the day after the party has achieved a kind of trans European unity that Jacques Delors can only dream about.
Actually, is it possible to eat your own bodyweight in food? Isn’t that a moving target? Mind you – it’s still a noble quest and one I shall continue to strive for.
