My daughter seems to have spontaneously developed a sense of humour over the past few days. I came into the kitchen recently to see her sitting alone laughing uncontrollably. She was unable to eat her spaghetti for laughing.
Of course, the sight of a wee kid laughing is very funny in itself, and soon the two of us were laughing hysterically. This went on for a good ten minutes, with me periodically asking "What is it that's funny?" She would then try to explain, but this would set her off into the giggles again.
Eventually, through tears of laughter she managed to explain: "Barnaby opened the door.....OF THE TOILET!!!" (More hilarity from both of us).
It was the best laugh I've had for ages. There is someting utterly cathartic about helpless laughter, especially when you have no idea what the joke is. I recommend it.
Barnaby - I should explain - is a character from a kids' TV programme. I wish I had seen the episode involving the toilet door: it sounds like it would have been considerably funnier than most of the current comedy output on the BBC.
