No. of QCTs to date: 3
No reply from the lovely people at Tetley to yesterday's e-mail yet. I am not too disheartened though. I suspect that they have referred it to their next board meeting, so that they can decide how much they wish to send me in sponsorship funds. As you know, I currently have offers of cups of tea in Turkey, Michigan and Bishops Stortford. I imagine that the cost of my plane tickets, a few nights in first class accommodation and, say, a couple of grand for expenses is not going to put much of a dent in the annual dividend at Tetley. I will keep you all posted.
My Significant Other is not proving to be entirely supportive of the project. I asked her if any of her colleagues would like to join me for a QCT (Qualifying Cup of Tea). She shot me a look that could best be described as withering (indeed, if you look up the word "withering" in the Chambers Concise Pop Up Dictionary, a little drawing of my wife's head unfolds and gives you a look that causes your testicles to contract). She pointed out that she has not mentioned the QCTs to anyone at work. She regards the project as embarrassing. More specifically, she regards me as embarrassing.
She will not be so disparaging when the cheque from Tetley comes in, or when the television deal is signed (I've thought of a title - "Around the World in Forty Cups" - I will be like a fatter, less-funny Michael Palin - how can the commissioning editors at Chanel 4 resist?)
