My laptop, I am convinced, is dying. Slowly. It is not a heartattack, but a slow and progressive illness. It is gradually seizing up. It has cyber arthritis, its circuits slow and creaking from overuse. It takes a while to get it going in the morning, and when it does the hard drive whirrs an wheezes like an old smoker before the first cigarette of the day.
Most worryingly of all, two vertical lines have appeared on the screen recently. I think they are the equivalent of varicose veins – thin, blue signs of things beginning to wind down in readiness for safe and ecological disposal.
We have had good times little laptop, but all things must pass.
