Entry for 10th November, 2007

I have gone back to playing badminton after the festive break. I did not feel very good after it. I suspect that this had something to do with the fact that my diet for the past three weeks has consisted almost exclusively of McEwan’s Export and toblerone. This is not a combination favoured by many Olympic athletes, and I suspect there is a reason for this.
Once, for me, victory was all. I was a bad loser. No. I was a terrible loser. And to all my friends who have seen me petulantly throwing rackets and golf clubs I offer a hearty apology. However, they should realise that however badly I behaved outwardly, I was actually exercising enormous self-control. Given the internal rage I felt when losing, any behaviour short of murder or self-mutilation, was actually a victory of will.
At any event, all that is behind me now. I have now reached an age where I regard it as a major success to come away from any sporting event without a hernia.
I did win at the badminton tonight though. YEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSS!!!!!
