Entry for 10th July, 2008

My local paper - The Hamilton Advertiser - has a section where it prints a little snippet of something from its archives from 100, 50 and 20 years ago. Usually it's full of old farts and washed up has beens. But not today. Today I appeared in it today!
Well - I didn't exactly appear, but the very first show that I ever directed was featured in the 20 years ago today section complete with a black and white photo, reprinted and with all the cast looking shiny and new. It was an odd experience - the last time I looked at that photo would be when it appeared in the Advertiser all those years ago.
That's it. It's official. I am definitely now old. Things I did are appearing in retrospective columns. Soon they will be measuring me for my coffin and relatives will be looking expectantly under my bed for an old suitcase full of investment bonds.
I even say old person things like "It doesn't feel like twenty years ago". And it doesn't. It really doesn't. It feels like the photographer from the Advertiser's flash bulb has just exploded and our eyes are re-adjusting to the light. It feels like we are walking out of the old school hall (long since knocked down) and turning the corner to the wee bar where we would get happily wasted every Tuesday night amidst the cloud of hormones and sexual tension that enveloped us.
Come on guys. Anyone fancy a Red Stripe?
